The Lost Market

Well, I just want to ask you, what do you think about Tlogowaru district? I believe you will say that Tlogowaru is the place which has been becoming planning of international centre education in Malang or perhaps you will say that Tlogowaru is an isolated area that really make you cannot live well there. However, actually Tlogowaru has kept many interesting places that are difficult to be enjoyed by the visitors. One of the examples is “The Lost Market”, I have given this name to the market in Tlogowaru that really different with other markets that I ever know. This market is actually have same large area, many stores, then the location is quite good because near with the main road of Tlogowaru. However, this market give different feelings for me while in the first time I visited there for doing my community service that be held in Elementary school behind this quite building. As a result, this market actually really helps me to take the shorter way to go to the elementary school. Furthermore, I begin to attract with the background of this lost market that can make this market such as the dead body that actually still have a little chance to breathe and survive in the environments. Then, I begin to do the adventure to find many facts and stories about this place. Finally, I get the points which make me feel surprise.

Do you want to know what is the story behind that? Or even when you never come there, you can try to visit there that actually not very far from my beloved dormitory perhaps you only need to take a walk for about 15 minutes to the East of my dormitory along Tlogowaru Main Street. Then, you can find that place in the left side of the Tlogowaru Street. Well, I really want to give my gratitude for Mr. Widin and his wife who told me many things about this ‘invisible place’. Alright, he said that if previously this market is only a large field but then it changes to be a market after it is owed by the rich person, because this rich person stayed in the heart of Malang City, he cannot supervised well, as a result the market that actually in the process of constructions had faced the problem of marketing the stores that already be built.

Then, after 8 years to be useless market because of lack of buyers, the local government tried to promote it by legalized the market on Saturday, May 14th 2011. However, this condition did not give any good progress for the market besides there were internal problems from the owner, also the problems of the people who wanted to buy the stand felt disappointed because of not maximal service from the owner to attract the other buyers. Many sellers then stopped their activity in this market because of the lack of visitors. Then it made this condition to be worse until right now when you visit there, you will absolutely find only 7 stores that are still surviving because the location is in front of the market. Moreover, it is really sad to know, if the rest of it just can be the useless places that sometimes make me scary while taking a walk along there with the old and dirty building. Well, that’s all about my story, you will find more interesting side of this lost market if you can spend your time much longer there. I hope this market will gradually improve the management as a result it will not be wasted away again for the society. Well, just enjoy!
